Last month, Aperam signed a definitive agreement to acquire Universal Stainless in an all cash deal. Aperam is a European headquartered global supplier of stainless, electrical and specialty steel and recycling. Universal is a US-based, aerospace-focused provider of stainless steel. The transaction gives Aperam a US footprint and greater exposure to the aerospace market. Universal could leverage Aperam’s R&D capabilities to expand their aerospace steel offering at a time when certain specialty grades are in short supply.
